Don’t spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door.

My name is May Carmelle Beliard. I go by Carmelle. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Massachusetts. I am also licensed in Rhode Island, Texas & Illinois. I attended Curry College and obtained my bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in sociology and a concentration in substance abuse and counseling. I completed my master’s in social work at Simmons University. I’m a compassionate and dedicated Haitian-American therapist committed to positively impacting the mental health field. With a diverse background and extensive experience, I strive to provide culturally sensitive and empowering therapeutic support to individuals from all walks of life. I am passionate about investing in individuals from marginalized communities and promoting mental well-being. As a clinician, I am skilled in providing culturally competent and trauma-informed therapy to diverse populations. I am experienced in addressing racial identity, anxiety, depression, systemic oppression, trauma, grief, and life/career transitions, and committed to supporting individuals through personalized treatment plans and empowering them to reach their full potential.

In my journey as a mental health professional, I've had the privilege of working with individuals from different communities, offering them a safe space to explore their emotions, challenges, and aspirations. Through my experiences, I have provided psychotherapy services and clinical assessments to over 100 clients, helping them navigate the complexities of mental health diagnoses with empathy and understanding. This has allowed me to be creative and flexible with my therapeutic approaches. My approach with clients is “Do with and cheer on.” I believe in collaborating with clients and being their biggest cheerleader as they achieve their goals while promoting self-determination. I value open and honest communication. I challenge and encourage clients to leave their comfort zone and explore their strengths. I believe clients have the skills to succeed, so I utilize motivational interviews and a strength-based approach during sessions. I also believe in solutions; therefore, my case management background and knowledge of community resources will aid in educating on available resources if needed. My diverse expertise extends beyond individual therapy. As a Pediatric Social Worker, I advocated for children with complex medical and psychosocial needs, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care and cultural competence training. Moreover, I have guided families in planning for their psycho-social needs, including those related to terminal illnesses, with compassion and sensitivity. I have served as an Intensive Care Coordinator providing case management and care coordination services for high-risk youths. My role involved connecting families with essential community resources and offering ongoing consultation and support to ensure their well-being and stability.  I have facilitated therapeutic groups and workshops that address crucial topics such as racial identity, anxiety, depression, systemic oppression, trauma, and grief. These sessions have fostered healing, connection, and support among clients, encouraging them to embark on transformative journeys toward personal growth and well-being.

As a bilingual therapist fluent in Haitian Creole, I deeply value cultural sensitivity. Growing up in a Haitian household, I possess the language and cultural fluency necessary to establish a strong rapport and communicate effectively with clients from different cultural backgrounds. I understand the nuances of being raised in the Caribbean culture and its impact on interpersonal relationships, life journeys, and values. I provide a space that respects and addresses my client's needs, creating an inclusive and affirming environment where you feel heard, understood, and validated. In our work together, you will be supported in creating and implementing culturally competent and trauma-informed treatment plans, ensuring you receive personalized care tailored to your unique background and experiences. I aim to empower clients to overcome barriers, discover their inner strength, and foster resilience in adversity. My education and rich experiences have equipped me with a deep understanding of mental health issues complexities and the importance of culturally competent care. Above all, I believe in the power of resilience and self-empowerment. My mission is to support individuals on their journey to healing, providing them with the tools to embrace their true potential and live fulfilling lives. I'm here for you if you seek a compassionate and culturally sensitive therapist who can help you navigate life's challenges with strength and resilience. Together, we can embark on a transformative journey toward healing and personal growth. Let's take the first step together and create a brighter future for you.
